Nikon D3100. I think it's about a decade old lol. Using a cheap 35mm prime lens with a $20 macro diopter too. I don't have a light box either (just ordered one though). I fold a piece of paper and have everything close to a light source.
While gear is important and a huge factor when it comes to taking macros, you're still able to get quality shots if you take the time to photograph and focus stack properly.
It's a time consuming process since each image is made up of images (each focusing on a different area and often times 20 - 40 different images). That said, I find it extremely rewarding and I enjoy photography so it's not too bad.
